Maybe it's been a while since you've taken a math class. Or perhaps numbers make you nervous. Not to worry. As a student at University of Phoenix, you can develop your skills and confidence in math through the Center for Mathematics Excellence (CME), our online resource available 24/7. It's an ideal refresher that covers everything from basic math terms to statistics.
We currently offer four services through CME at no charge:
During a course, you can get real-time help with Live Math Tutoring. One-on-one sessions are available 24/7 and are conducted by trained tutors through live chat (no audio). Our tutors use an interactive whiteboard to demonstrate math concepts for you. This service is available in select math and statistics courses and is accessible directly from the classroom.
If you’re not sure where to start and need to focus on the basics, the Building Math Confidence tool within CME addresses those concerns with two refreshers:
PhoenixMath® acts like a virtual mentor, helping you build on concepts as you learn them. It guides you through basic math vocabulary and algebra concepts at a pace that's comfortable for you, until you're ready to go on to the next level.
If the thought of jumping into a college-level math course gives you the jitters, be sure to visit Overcoming Math Anxiety. It offers ways to help you overcome any apprehension you may have with all things math-related.
In addition to the tried-and-true math refreshers available through the Center for Mathematics Excellence, students can connect online with peers, faculty and CME staff via the Math Help community on our PhoenixConnect® academic social network. You can visit the community 24/7 to join discussions, ask questions about math terms and learn how to use CME resources. The community is monitored by students and instructors for the benefit of everyone who needs math support.
