Built on a foundation of advanced nursing and leadership theory and research, the Nurse Administration concentration provides the knowledge and skills through which nurses may influence the future of nursing and health care administration. The Nurse Administration concentration prepares graduates to function in leadership roles in a variety of health care settings.

Upon completion of the MSN/Nurse Administration program, graduates with the required practice experience will be prepared to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Centers Nurse Executive Board Certification (NE-BC) exam.

What you'll learn

The Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Nursing Administration (MSN/ADM) program prepares registered nurses to become leaders in the field of Nursing Administration. Advanced nursing theory and research provide the foundation for nurse leaders to influence the future of nursing and health care. Specialty Administration courses allow students to focus on contemporary industry-required competencies such as: leadership and management within and between diverse healthcare organizations; communication, collaboration, and relationship management within interprofessional teams; systems thinking and design as a means to improve quality, safety, patient outcomes, and reduce risk.

Certification in Alabama

State approval of a program to offer Alabama licensed nurses opportunities for advanced degrees does not indicate eligibility for approval to practice as an advanced practice nurse in Alabama. Applicants for approval in Alabama are required to meet the Alabama requirements for national certification, graduation from a specific-type program for the advanced practice approval, and completion of the appropriate application. Any program offering a pre-licensure track to Alabama students shall meet the requirements of the Alabama regulations for pre-licensure programs or the graduates may not be eligible to take the national licensure examination required by the Alabama Board of Nursing to enter practice.
